The decision was taken in the wake of the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan

The 2025 IPL has been halted. Following the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI made the decision. Soon, an official announcement is anticipated.

Following a conversation with BCCI executives, including IPL chairman Arun Dhumal and secretary Devajit Saikia, the decision was made on Friday to stop the IPL. The suspension has already been communicated to every team. Players and support personnel are reportedly catching the first flights out of and inside India as the teams have already begun disbanding.

It is believed that everyone who took the call concurred that the existing climate did not warrant the continuation of the IPL.

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs. Delhi Capitals (DC) match was called off by the IPL midway through the first innings on Thursday. This development occurred the day before. The PBKS and DC players and support personnel traveled a bus from Dharamsala to Jalandhar and then a train to Delhi because the airports in Dharamsala and the surrounding areas were closed.

When will the IPL resume?
The IPL has not yet decided on a another time slot to hold the remaining competition. Currently, September, when India has no bilateral engagements, is one potential opportunity. But this is also when the Asia Cup was scheduled.

Even with the Dharamsala abandonment, IPL 2025 is now 58 games old. Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur are the remaining 12 group stage matches. The playoffs will then take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
